TTNZ is pleased to announce that Averil Roberts has been selected as an International Umpire to officiate at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, to be held in Birmingham, England from 28 July to 8 August.
TTNZ CEO Warren Ogilvie was very pleased with the annoucement and commented "Averil's selection is wonderful news, she is an inspiration to any prospective young umpires wishing to follow the officiating path, as this is one of the best ways to be involved from local to international level. TTNZ is very proud to be represented on the international stage and look forward to this continuing long into the future.
Averil's dedication to officiating at international level started in 2000 when she passed an international umpire exam and then the advance exam in 2002. Averil obtained Blue Badge status in 2003 (one of the first 15 worldwide) and has officiated at numerous international events over the years, including her highlight match, Olympics (Beijing) umpiring Bronze Medal match Persson (Sweden) v Wang Liquin (China), Paralympics (Sydney), World Champs (Osaka, last combined team/individual event), Commonwealth Games (Manchester, Melbourne, Glasgow, Gold Coast), World Individuals (Paris, Shanghai, Zagreb, Rotterdam, Dusseldorf), World Team Championships (Qatar, Bremen, Kuala Lumpur), Commonwealth Champs (Kuala Lumpur), Australian Open Pro Tours and World Junior finals.
Averil commented " I feel very honoured to have been selected".
