Both Hui Ling Vong and Yanglun Zhao have had some impressive results in individuals events at the ITTF World Cadet Challenge in Shanghai after disappointing overall results in the teams event.
Hui Ling has made it to the main draw in the girls singles, where she faces the highly regarded Elena Zaharia of Romania on Friday. ; She qualified on the back of an emphatic straight sets upset of Canada';s Isabelle Xiong in pool play.
Jonjon is into the quarter-finals of the mixed doubles with Chinese partner, Fan Xu, and the quarter-finals of the boys doubles with Oceania team-mate Zaki Zenaidee from Australia.
Both the Oceania girls and boys were outclassed in the teams event, with the girls finishing in last place after a 2-3 loss to Africa. ; Hui Ling won both her matches in that contest, and one against the Hopes team, but her team-mates were unfortunately unable to win a match through-out the event.
It was virtually identical for the boys, where Jonjon won both his matches in a 2-3 loss to Hopes for 7th and 8th, after his team had failed to win a single match to that point.
TTNZ hopes that the pattern of increasingly better results continues into the final stages of individuals!
